Derek Hatfield's Completion of the VELUX 5 Oceans Race
 
 
VELUX Canada invites you to celebrate with Canadian ocean racer Derek Hatfield on his recent successful completion of the VELUX 5 Oceans single-handed round the world yacht race.

Celebrations will include an opportunity to hear Derek speak about his adventures at sea and a chance to enjoy some food and wine.

About the VELUX 5 Oceans Race
On October 16th, 2010 five skippers set sail from La Rochelle, France for the 30,000 mile race which ended back in La Rochelle at the end of May 2011.  Stops along the way included Cape Town in South Africa, Wellington in New Zealand, Punta del Este in Uruguay and Charleston,  USA.
 
Derek Hatfield, aboard Active House finished on May 29th, 2011 and secured third position overall in the solo race around the world.
 
The race provided some of the closest and most exciting racing seen in solo sailing in recent times!  VELUX 5 Oceans is recognized as the longest and toughest sporting event in the world in the most extreme weather conditions on the planet.  This years race saw the introduction of the Eco 60 class, premiered in the event as a sustainable vision for solo ocean racing.
