Ontario Regional Training Centres

What is a “Centre”
In the past Ontario Sailing has employed one or two coaches to deliver coaching services to our Ontario Sailing Team (OST) and Ontario Sailing Development Team (OSDT). The coaches have done an admirable job of trying to service the team members but have found it difficult to serve the needs of many athletes and multiple boats across Ontario .

The Centres are designated as a "National Training Centre," a “ Regional Training Center, ” a "Paralympic Training Centre," or a “Development Centre"  where our OST, OSDT and the Quest for Gold Elite Team sailors will train from a centre of their choice.   In addition, we have added a designated "Training Facility" for 2010.  Ontario Sailing will support the centres with funding towards coaching support and an “open centre concept philosophy” for the athletes on the QFG Elite Team, OST and OSDT to be able to come and train at these centres during the year.

Training Centres for 2010 Are As Follows:
 National Training Centre
 Development Training Centres

 Regional Training CentreSarnia Yacht Club

Paralympic Training Centres

Paralympic Development Centre
 Training Facility
Royal Hamilton Yacht Club

Ontario Sailing will employ the services of a High Performance Coordinator. The Coordinator will help build a working relationship with CYA and other high quality boat specific and professional coaches to help compliment the coaching team at each centre. Training Camps will be hosted at the centres where other team members from the same level of centres would come and train together while working with the coaches from other centres and those brought in by Ontario Sailing for that particular camp.

The CYA National Team members were polled for ways they consider best benefits their programs in a given year. Top answers included training in “training groups” with “consistent coaching” as their top priorities. The Training Centre Model will include these initiatives.
