Ontario Qualification Process for Ontario Summer Games 2012 and Canada Summer Games 2013
Ontario Sailing is pleased to highlight the qualification process for these two exciting events. Club Sailing Directors, Coaches and Parents are strongly encouraged to let Club Racing teams be aware of the process for each. Both events are exciting opportunities to represent your club, sport and in the case of the CSG 2013, youre Province. Please note that the qualification process is important to follow in order to qualify for the event. Also, while the CSG 2013 event is not until 2013, qualifying for the team (and alternates) will be done at CORK OCR in 2012.
Ontario Summer Games August 16-19 2012
The Ontario Summer Games will showcase Sailing at the beautiful facilities of Ashbridges Bay Yacht Club. Sailors in the 13-17 age categories participating in the Learn to Train stage of Long Term Athlete Development, will sail and compete in the following classes:
Laser Radial-Female (single handed Olympic Class)
Laser Radial Male (Single handed development Class for the Olympic Class Laser)
420- Open (Double Handed development Class for the Olympic Class 470)
Please note sailors competing at CORK International can still compete in the OSG 2012.
Participants must represent a member club or organization in good standing with Ontario Sailing and be under 18 years of age as of December 31, 2012.
Sailors qualify for the games by competing at:
Sarnia SailFest- July 7-8: The top eight Radial Male, eight Radial Female, and ten 420's, based on age at each event, will qualify.
The Host Club, ABYC, may name one each of Radial Male and Radial Female and one 420 in addition to any that may qualify at the Sarnia event.
Ontario Sailing reserves the right to assign any un-used portions not selected at Sarnia or from ABYC to competitors in the Grand Prix Series. Furthermore, Ontario Sailing may also assign these remaining boats to clubs with the appropriate level of athletes.
Competitors must be Canadian citizens.
Canada Summer Games August 2-9 2013
The Canada Summer Games will showcase Sailing at the facilities of Club Nautique du Petit Lac Magog for Sailors in under the age of 21 and no younger than 17 years of age (Birth Dates between Jan 1st 1993 and December 31 1996) for Able Bodied in the Training to Compete Stage of LTAD
For Para Athletes born in 1979 or later with a Disability Classification of 7 (age exceptions will be made for Para Athletes that demonstrate they are within the Training to Compete level of LTAD)
Athletes that meet the age and appropriate state of LTAD will qualify for the CSG 2013 team (plus an alternate athlete(s) for each class who will sail the event if the top ranked athletes are not able to attend due to medical, travel or other complications).
The following Classes of Boats will participate in the Games:
Under 21 (no younger than 17) Male category (cannot hold a Sport Canada SR card)
Single- Handed Laser (1 competitor)
Double- Handed 29er (2 competitors per boat
Under 21 (no younger than 17) Female category (cannot hold a Sport Canada SR card)
Single Handed Radial (1 competitor)
Double Handed 29rt (2 competitors per boat)
Para Sailing Mixed category (cannot hold a Sport Canada SR card)
2.4m (1 competitor)
Sailors quality for the games by competing at:
CORK OCR 2012 for the following classes
- Male single Laser and 29er
- Female Radial and 29er
The Eligible Ontario athlete finishing with the best finish (two races must be sailed to constitute eligibility) (in the event that two races are not completed in the Ontario CSG Trail Event, Ontario Sailing will appoint the competitor for the CSG at its sole discretion).
Sailors qualify for the games by competing at
Canadian Championships in the 2.4m being held in Toronto and Ontario Championships being held in Nepean Ontario Dates TBD.
Competitors must be Canadian citizens.
The Eligible Ontario athlete finishing with the best total combined finish (two races must be sailed to constitute eligibility) (in the event that two races are not completed in the Ontario CSG Trail Events, Ontario Sailing will appoint the competitor for the CSG at its sole discretion).
In addition each athlete and alternate(s) must agree to the following:
- To join the Ontario Sailing Team for 2012/13 (if not already on the team)
- Agree to work with the Ontario Sailing coaching team to develop a Yearly Plan to include fall, winter and spring training
- Attend a mandatory Team Ontario Spring 2013 Camp (dates TBD) for training in such things as media, ethics, anti-doping etc.
- Attend an Ontario Sailing Camp in Fall 2012 and Spring 2013
