The curriculum, lesson plans and teaching methods are specific to engaging this young group while inadvertently teaching them about sailing boats, water safety, and fundamental movement and balance skills in Optimist Dinghies and dockside.

The program is designed to be delivered in sessions that can be offered in half days for one week; a few evening hours once or twice a week for 6-8 weeks; Sunday (e.g. afternoons all summer). It fits nicely into a ‘multi-sport’ day camp program for this age group – where the Wet Feet sailing program is half the day, and another set of activities fills the other sections of the day.

CANSail Program Manager Module
The CANSail Program Manager Module is designed to assist individuals in becoming competent administrators of a sailing school program. The role of the Program Manager encompasses new challenges that are a drastically different from those that coaches may have previously experienced. Hiring staff, motivating sailors and coaches, maximizing boat time for all participants, managing on site safety, dealing with parents and sailing school directors are all things that will be learned in this course. All of these tasks present new challenges that will test your abilities far beyond your sailing knowledge.

This course is targeted at those who are looking to learn and develop the skills necessary to run a sailing school and will not be coaching at a high level. (ie. Bronze Sail Instructors or volunteer sailing school directors). If your school or club is running CANSail programming in 2012 you are strongly encouraged to have a representative from your club complete this module.

This course requires the candidates to complete at home assignments prior to the start of the clinic. Upon registration you will be sent the required materials and the Learning Facilitator will be in touch with you to detail all the required work.

If you are a current CYA Learn to Sail Instructor this course will recertify your current instructor level and equivalent CANSail Level. For example if you are a Bronze Sail Instructor and you successfully complete this course you will be recertified as a Bronze Sail/CANSail 3 & 4 Instructor.
