How Are We Doing?In order for the Ontario Sailing Board of Directors to develop a new strategic plan, we need some input from you, our valued members. Below is a link to an online survey. We would greatly appreciate you taking a few moments to provide us some feedback on how we are doing by filling out this survey. We highly value our members' opinions and want to make sure we are doing the best job possible at providing service to everyone.

7th Annual Celebration of Sailing - February 28, 2009The 7th Annual Celebration of Sailing fundraising dinner will be held on February 28, 2009 at The Boulevard Club, Toronto. Doors open at 6:00pm with dinner at 7:00pm.
The evening will be a fun filled time with both a live and silent auction, a fabulous speaker and great door prizes. Live auction items and silent auction items will be provided by both an auction house and supporters from the marine industry. Proceeds from the evening go to support the Ontario Sailing Team.
Ontario Sailing is proud to present Doug Leigh as our keynote speaker this year. Mr. Leigh is clearly recognized as Canada's premier skating coach and is internationally acclaimed as a leader in the field. He has coached World Champions and Olympic Medalists Brian Orser and Elvis Stojko, 2 time World Bronze Medalist Takeshi Honda and has coached skaters to over 150 National and International Medals. Doug Leigh began the Mariposa School of Skating, currently in Barrie, in 1973 and has establised this as one of the major skating facilities both in Canada and the world. His coaching success is driven by the motto, "It can be done!"
There will also be a special recognition of Ontario 2008 Olympic sailors and coaches during the evening. Come show your support and let them know how proud we are of them!

 Boating For Children's Charities - January 9, 2009 - Direct Energy CentreJanuary 9, 2009 is a special preview night of the Toronto International Boat Show called "Boating For Children's Charities." Here is your opportunity to see the show before the general public and without the large crowds with 100% of the proceeds from the evening going to 4 children's organizations. One of these recipients is the Ontario Sailing Able Sail and Access BOOM programs.

New Instructor/Coach Development ProgramsIf you are planning on becoming a Sailing Instructor, planning on getting a new certification or you are a parent of a Sailing Instructor, please read the following and the other relative pages. This is important to your future certification.
CYA and Ontario Sailing are launching a new Instructor/Coach Development system based on the new National Coaching Certifiation Program (NCCP) standards.
The old Green, Blue, Red (Orange) and Black progression that you have become familiar with over the years has been replaced by a non-linear system that allows potential candidates to enter at any level they would like, based on experience and skill, as well as allowing candidates to become an expert in a particular area of specialty.
The new courses are called White Sail Coach, Bronze Sail Coach and Fundamental. The Fundamental Course registration is now available on-line.
Ontario Sailing will start offering the new program in February, 2009 with the introduction of the new Sailing Specific Coaching Theory course called the Fundamental Course. Every coach will need to take the Fundamental Course just as every coach needed to take the NCCP coaching levels in the old system. We will no longer accept multisport theory courses as a prerequisite (ie: Introduction to Competition A).
Registration for the White Sail and Bronze Sail programs will start in January, 2009 prior to the Toronto International Boat Show.

Toronto International Boat Show - January 10 - 18, 2009 - Direct Energy Centre Ontario Sailing will once again have a booth at the Toronto International Boat Show. Come visit us at booth 1601! The Toronto International Boat Show is the 2nd largest boat show in North America. Use the link above to order your tickets online and save $3.00.

A Message to Our Clubs Regarding Property Tax Assessments and Property TaxesAs with all properties in
Collectively The Council of Commodores and Ontario Sailing are working on a strategy to try and fight these changes. We ask that you contact Ontario Sailing and the Council of Commodores (if you area a member of the Council of Commodores) with details on the changes to your assessed value. If you rent your property but don’t normally see your Assessment information you can request this from your Landlord.
In order for us to have a collective but informed voice we need to make sure the communications are solid and have the most up to date facts.

Nominate Your Coach for Chunky MVC: Most Valuable CoachThe Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) is thrilled to announce its new partnership with the Campbell’s® Chunky® brand. This partnership kicks-off with the Chunky MVC: Most Valuable Coach contest in which sport organizations can invite their teams and communities to nominate dedicated coaches who make a real difference. This campaign is designed to give and share the recognition great coaches deserve.
Each year, thousands of coaches selflessly give of themselves to continually improve their team, their sport and their community, and Campbell’s Chunky and CAC want to recognize that effort. The winner will receive the Chunky MVC Tribute Day to be featured on TSN, among other prizes. Ontario Sailing Annual General Meeting - January 18, 2009The Ontario Sailing AGM will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the Direct Energy Centre, Toronto, Salon 101. Registration begins at 10am with the meeting starting at 10:30am.

Instructor Course Registration Begins January, 2009Registration for 2009 instructor courses will be available on the Ontario Sailing website in January, 2009. There is a new system being implemented this year which allows one to enter the system at any level. Instructors will now be referred to as a White Sail Coach, Bronze Sail Coach, Learn To Race Coach or Orange Race Coach. There is also a new Fundamental Course that all instructors must take. New Member Benefits from Mark's Work WearhouseOntario Sailing has partnered with Mark's Work Wearhouse to bring a new benefit to our members. Starting in April, 2009 discount cards will be available to all Ontario Sailing members that will give the bearer a 10% discount on certain products at all Mark's Work Wearhouse stores.
Ontario Sailing Office Closed for the HolidaysThe Ontario Sailing office will be closed for the holidays from 12:00pm December 24th through January 2nd. The office will reopen on Monday, January 5th.
New Racing Rules 2009 Now AvailableThe 2009-2012 Racing Rules of Sailing book with CYA Prescriptions is now in print. They will be in the Ontario Sailing office and ready for purchase in January, 2009. To purchase please contact Margaret at sales@ontariosailing.ca or 1-888-672-7245 ext. 223.
